Surfing Turtle Lodge is the unique result of a group of friends who had a vision of an ideal beach vacation.  The hostel is a combination of an entertaining atmosphere, eco-friendly, healthy and comfortable living in the beauty of a natural environment.

An Ideal Setting

Surfing Turtle Lodge is located on the island of Los Brasiles (also known as Isla Los Brasiles) just off the north-west pacific coast of Nicaragua.  The island is separated from the mainland by a small river that few have crossed, making it virtually undeveloped.  After a quick boat ride, provided by a local fisherman or The Lodge, you will find yourself just a short walk away from the hostel.

Upon arrival, visitors can enjoy prime views of the ocean and beach sunsets to the west, and volcanoes and sunrises to the east.  The beach, approximately 7 km in length, is virtually deserted.  Surfing Turtle offers a unique experience to the traveler, offering seclusion from the everyday world and society.  At the same time, it is close to the beach towns of Poneloya and Las Peñitas, and only 30 minutes away from Nicaragua’s second largest city, León. Quality Accommodations

Located right on the beach, our hostel includes a main lodge (with reception area, lounge, bar, dorm and balcony), three private cabins (cabanas), and a separate kitchen/dining area – all offering unobstructed views of the ocean.

The hostel is designed to provide great comfort while maintaining a unique look.  Built with mahogany and royal cedar, the cabins (cabanas) and lodge are beautifully designed and feel like home.

Our commitment to ecological responsibility has been a guiding factor in the creation of Surfing Turtle Lodge, and has contributed to some of its unique features.  For example, most of the wood utilized for the construction of the Lodge’s structures was salvaged from hurricane-ravaged areas of Nicaragua’s east coast.

Accommodations include:

- a Shared Dorm [up to 12 people] on the second floor of the main lodge, with a surrounding balcony and shared washrooms.

- 2 Private Rooms [up to 2 people per room] on the second floor of the main lodge, with shared washroom.

- three Private Cabins (cabanas) [up to 2 people per cabin], each with an en-suite washroom and private balcony overlooking the ocean.

Eco Friendly

Enjoy one of the few Eco-friendly Hostels in Nicaragua and Central America. Surfing Turtle Lodge is proud to be part of a new and important movement of being environmentally friendly.

Let the power of the sun energize your vacation in more ways than before. Surfing Turtle Lodge is a solely Solar Power Eco-Hostel and still let’s anyone enjoy the commodities of modern life without the drawbacks of a big carbon footprint. The appliances we power through our solar panels include:

Land Cleaning

Our Hostel is also dedicated in maintaining the surrounding area clean. We make sure to not only provide guests with clean accommodations, we strive to maintain the surrounding area around the hostel well kept and clean. We remove litter and other items that do not belong on the island and keep the environment as natural as possible.

Healthy and Fresh Meals

Our cook uses only the freshest ingredients, purchased locally to support both the community and the environment.

We offer a full menu for Breakfast and Lunch.  Every evening, our cook features a selection of different dinner dishes so that our guests have a variety of options every day of the week.  Vegetarian options are available, and snacks are available around the clock.

Personalized Service

We are here to make your stay in the hostel a memorable one. Surfing Turtle Lodge accommodates 23 guests at full occupancy. This ensures that every guest can count on friendly, personalized and efficient service.
